Main Finding of DLI

  • Current wage is not intended for the welfare of workers, but rather as a means of investment security. In any determination of wages, workers' living needs not be an important consideration. The government is looking at the ability of the state budget to pay its employees and wage determination is always aimed at creating a safe investment, so the government always tried to suppress wages as low as possible. Low-wage policies used by governments to suppress the workers in the interest of the country's economic growth, which is true only for the interests of capital and the political rulers. Profits accumulated by the investment does not necessarily have an impact on wage increases but rather are used to develop new investments that exploit workers.
  • In general, wages in Asia are extremely low, below the poverty line and far from the smell of human rights and human dignity. Deliberate in setting wages for workers forced to live in poverty so that the government and capital can very easily control the economic and politcal power of workers. Thus the influence of the workers against each other can also be controlled and handled quickly in case of turbulence, for example by offering facilities to trade union activists such as a car or a job promotion and wage increases. Wages still be a powerful tool for employers to manage workers' social status in society and this issue has always been a land conflict between workers and employers and even fellow workers are pitted against sheep by employers.
  • Indeed, wages are issues that can not be bargained between employers and workers. Wage scale has been decided by the government prior to the dialogue going on. So the wage dialogue among the parties is only formal process to meet the mandate of the law. The concept of wages offered by some trade unions were not able to urge the government to issue a rule on wage more humane and dignified. The issue of wages is often only used as political campaign slogan for a political power, but never really brought into a political forum for wage policy-making. Wage commission in each country nothing more than a political vehicle to improve particular groups.
  • Current wage policies tend to worsen the lives of workers, forcing workers to stay in a weak position, poor, depressed and always in bondage. Low-wage cause workers can not lead their children at school, not able to provide good nutrition for the family. Structurally, the workers will always be weak, poor and poorly educated. Cheap wages also forced workers to work longer to earn extra income or find a loan to prop up his life and family.
  • Low wages policy, forcing workers to work overtime to earn more. This situation surely difficult for trade union to organize its members. Not only that, often overtime was not enough to make ends meet every day. Many workers also have a second or third job. Slowly but surely, the union becomes weaker and weaker every day. The absence of time also trigger disharmony in the family, married workers has no longer have quality time for their family.
  • The next result of the above situation is the pressure in the family, conflict and stress that triggered the divorce. Abandoned children because both parents are forced to work. For some young men and women who are not married in some countries, they do not believe themselves to family life. In developed countries, social status is often linked to how much wages you receive, if it is found that low wages, they feel that their lives are worthless, then not a few suicides occur in the absence of the value of life and poverty.

The difference is very clear; minimum wage, workers living in a state of setting a minimum age in all aspects of life; minimum wage, minimum food and drink, minimum clothes, minimum house, health and education is also minimum. While DLI treat the worker as the subject of work and wages, thereby providing all aspects of life in a dignified and adequate. Adequate food and drink, adequate clothes, adequate house, adequate social services and adequate social security.
